SHILLONG, Aug 27: Leader of the Opposition, Ronnie V. Lyngdoh has underlined the need to engage various stakeholders for implementing the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 in the state.
“All of us – policymakers, university or college teachers, and students – should come together to help understand the hurdles that need to be addressed for implementing the NEP,” he told The Shillong Times here on Sunday.
He said it is essential to have a comprehensive policy to deliberate on all the issues so that the students do not suffer. There is no point in implementing a policy and later realising it has lacunae and drawbacks.
“We need to have a threadbare discussion before implementing the policy. The NEP is required but it is also important to take the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association on board. We also need to have a proper infrastructure in place and required manpower before moving forward,” Lyngdoh said.
He said it would not be right to implement the NEP just for the sake of it.
“We need to follow up properly to find out if all the colleges are ready and have the manpower to implement the NEP. If it does not benefit the students, the very objective of the policy would be defeated,” he said.
