Mawpoin, Tug of War highlight Nationals Sports Day celebrations in Mawkyrwat

Mawkyrwat, Aug 29: South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner T Lyngwa concluded the 2nd Mawpoin Tournament, 2023 & Tug of War Competition at the Mawkyrwat District Sports Association Stadium, on Tuesday.
The events were organised by the District Sports Officer, Mawkyrwat as part of the celebration of the National Sports Day 2023.
Speaking on the occasion, Lyngwa highlighted upon the importance and value of sports, discipline, perseverance, sporting-spirit and teamwork by emphasising on the needs of indulgence in sport activities as it not only makes them physically and mentally fit, but it also helps them abstain from bad habits. Therefore, Lyngwa encouraged students to take up sports as a career and make it an integral part of their lives.
While highly appreciated teachers for their keen interest in promoting sports in this area, Lyngwa inspired students to continue their practice in these traditional sports with a hope for more participation in these games in future. Mawpoin and Tug of War competitions were one of the few prominent traditional games that is popular in Meghalaya
330 students participated in the event.
