SHILLONG, Aug 29: Deputy Chief Minister and NPP leader, Sniawbhalang Dhar on Tuesday confirmed that BJP spokesperson HM Shangpliang has expressed his desire to join the ruling party.
Dhar, however, made it clear that the party has not given any assurance to Shangpliang that he would be given the NPP ticket to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections for the Shillong seat since there are many contenders for the party ticket.
Dhar said the party leaders will sit and discuss the matter pertaining to Shangpliang’s entry into the NPP.
He also said that sitting Lok Sabha member Agatha Sangma is expected to be the party’s natural choice of candidate for the Tura parliamentary seat.
Dhar also denied speculations that Congress state president Vincent H Pala was keen to contest the next year’s polls on an NPP ticket.
