Guwahati, Sept 1: The criminal investigation department (CID) of Assam Police has detained a deputy superintendent of police, two sub-inspectors and an assistant sub-inspector, along with three others from the police department for questioning following a complaint of demand for money by some police officers.
Assam DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh informed that the Assam Police headquarters had, in connection with an incident in Bajali, “received a complaint of demand for money by some police officers of Bajali during the first week of August.”
Subsequently, the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption was directed to lay a trap but couldn’t succeed since the police officers were careful, the DGP said.
“However, the complaint was found to be prima facie true. On the basis of it, a criminal case has been registered on August 31 at Assam CID vide CID police station case number 14/2023 under Sections 120B/341/342/323/448/294/379/387/427/506/307of IPC,” Singh said.
Thereafter, Puskal Gogoi, the deputy SP (HQ), Bajali; sub-inspector Anup Jyoti Patiri, officer in-charge, Patacharkuchi police station; sub-inspector (P) Debajit Giri, in-charge, Bhawanipur outpost under Patacharkuchi police station; assistant sub-inspector Sasanka Das of Patacharkuchi police station; armed branch constable Injamamul Hassan, PSO of Gayatri Sonowal, the then additional SP (HQ), Bajali; homeguard (driver) Deepjoy Roy, driver of SP, Bajali and homeguard (driver) Nabir Ahmed, part-time driver of SP, Bajali have been brought to the CID police station here for further necessary action.
“Further lawful action is being taken. As always, we remain committed to relentless, ruthless action against corrupt practices,” the DGP asserted.
