Indian boxing team for Asian Games to undergo a 17-day camp
NEW DELHI, Sep 4: The Indian boxing team for the Asian Games will undergo a 17-day training camp in the Chinese city of Wuyishan ahead of the continental multi-sporting event in Hangzhou, the national federation said on Monday.Thirteen boxers and 11 support staff members left for China on Sunday, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) said in a tweet.The training camp will continue till September 20.“Post that, the team will leave for Hangzhou to participate in the Asian Games,” the BFI said.Indian Squad for the Hangzhou Asian Games: Men: Deepak (51 kg), Sachin (57 kg), Shiva Thapa (63.5 kg), Nishant Dev (71 kg), Lakshya Chahar (80 kg), Sanjeet (92 kg) and Narender (+92 kg).Women: Nikhat Zareen (50 kg), Preeti (54 kg), Parveen (57 kg), Jaismine (60 kg), Arundhati Choudhary (66 kg), Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg). Switzerland Tourism felicitates Neeraj Chopra
ZURICH, Sep 4: Switzerland Tourism felicitated their ‘Friendship Ambassador’ Olympic and World champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra for his achievements.The 25-year-old Chopra became only the third javelin thrower in history to hold both the Olympic and World Championships crowns after winning the worlds title in Budapest with a throw of 88.17m last month.“We are honoured and delighted to celebrate India’s sports legend Neeraj Chopra. Neeraj is paving the way and inspiring an entire generation. For us at Switzerland Tourism, we are extremely happy with our association with Neeraj as our ‘Friendship Ambassador’ in India.“We heartily congratulate him on his world championship and wish him the best for his future endeavours,” Pascal Prinz, Head of global partnerships at Switzerland Tourism, said in a media release. Diksha finishes 7th in Irish Open
DUBLIN, Sep 4: Indian golfer Diksha Dagar squandered a promising start to the tournament as she shot a 2-under 70 in the final round to sign off at seventh place at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open.It was the 22-year-old’s sixth Top-10 finish of the year.In a tournament where the leaderboard was extremely tight, Diksha had a total of 13-under and lost by three shots.The seventh place finish also pushed Diksha up into the third on the Race to Costa Del Sol, the Order of Merit for the Ladies European Tour. She overtook compatriot Aditi Ashok, who has been dividing her time between the LET and the Ladies PGA in the US. The Top-4 at the end of the season will earn a card into the Ladies PGA Tour.Diksha, who led the field after the first and second days, had slipped to T-3 after the third round.Smilla Tarning Soenderby fired the round of her life, a 10-under 62, to post the clubhouse lead and was later joined by Sweden’s Lisa Pettersson and Anne Van Dam of the Netherlands. Soenderby then secured a dramatic playoff victory. Diksha missed a few short putts and her two bogeys on the 18th, on the third and the final day, proved costly as she came close to victory but could not close it. (PTI)
IOA signs up Samsonite as Asian Games partner
NEW DELHI, Sep 4: Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Monday announced signing up of Samsonite, the travel luggage company, as partner for the Hangzhou-bound Asian Games contingent.The members of the Indian contingent will travel to the continental mega event, scheduled to take place from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou, China, will travel with premium suitcases.IOA president PT Usha has said the collaboration marks the partnership of leaders committed to excellence. Samsonite India CEO Jai Krishnan said it was “an honour” to be part of the Indian athlete’s journey. ”Samsonite has always been about journeys. And there’s none more heart-stirring than that the one our athletes are embarking on. We are honoured to be a small but significant part of their journey,” he said. (IANS)
