TURA, Sep 6: South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner R.P. Marak on Wednesday convened a meeting with the Market Committees from the District to restrict the open and unhygienic display of meat on the road sides.

The meeting was held in the presence of ADC (Judicial) Y. W. Momin, BDO-cu-Executive Magistrates, District Veterinary Officer A M Momin and officials of the AH & Vety Department, Police and other officials at Ampati Circuit House.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner explained to the Market Committee representatives that the open display of meat and meat parts by meat sellers/vendors on the roadsides is not only a disgustful sight but also unhygienic. He also said that non-compliance of HC order would amount to contempt of court and lead to legal consequences.

He therefore appealed to the market committees to monitor the condition of meat markets and sought their cooperation in ensuring that all meat sellers do not display animal parts openly and they are kept in closed containers to avoid dust and grime as well as maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the meat shops.

The ADC (Judicial), Y.W.Momin informed that an appeal in this regard has been issued to all the respective market committees about two months earlier. He also informed that a team of AH & Veterinary officials have also made rounds of inspections to all the meat sellers in the district to ensure that meat and animal parts are sold in enclosed spaces.
