SHILLONG, Sep 6: The State BJP on Wednesday stated that the Centre’s proposal of ‘One nation, one election’ will spell tremendous benefits for the country.
“It is going to help tremendously. Today in India there are so many states which have different dates of elections, lot of expenditure is involved, and also the model code of conduct is involved in holding the developmental programme. In a year, there are two-three state elections, how much time and money we are wasting,” said senior BJP leader and Cabinet Minister, AL Hek on Wednesday.
The BJP leader said, “We are already one nation, there is no argument on this.
When it comes to the elections, we have a number of different elections. Talk about Lok Sabha, state Assembly elections, District Council elections, panchayat elections, municipal elections. There are too many elections”.
He pointed out that the central government is spending excessively for resources and manpower during elections.
“We have to see all the pros and cons. Whether it is feasible or not,” he added.
The BJP leader also asserted that the saffron party wants to win all the seats in the Northeast in the Lok Sabha polls even as he downplayed the fears that the Manipur conflict would hamper party’s prospects.
Asked about the identification of candidates, Hek said that a proper scrutiny of the aspirants will be conducted while adding that the party has already held several meetings with the presidents of the party’s units in the Northeastern states.
“We want to win all seats in the NE and we want to make a block along with our alliance partner we are working very hard to make a strategy and prepare for elections,’ he said while adding that they have even formed a ‘Lok Sabha Prabhas’.
