SHILLONG, Sep 12: Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Tuesday said that he will have to forward the names recommended for the post of the Chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) and its members before presenting it before the Cabinet.
The minister is likely to receive the recommendations for MSCW members from the Search and Select Committee on Wednesday.
“I will need to brief Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma before tabling the recommendations in the Cabinet for its approval,” Lyngdoh told The Shillong Times.
Earlier, the Social Welfare Minister had clearly stated that the committee will ensure that the new women’s commission will not comprise political appointees.
“We will ensure that there is no politicisation of the selection process,” he stated.
It may be mentioned that Phidalia Toi had quit after there was a move to remove her. The search and select committee was led by Commissioner and Secretary, Social Welfare department, as its chairperson.
