ACS officer suspended for unauthorised absence from office

Guwahati, Sept 14: An Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer, posted as deputy secretary of the state border protection and development department, has been placed under suspension for unauthorised absence from office, gross indiscipline and misconduct.

A notification issued by the additional chief secretary, personnel (A) department stated that Kumur Surajeet Bora, deputy secretary, border protection and development department, has been absent from office since May 2022 without any intimation to the authority till date.

“Departmental proceedings were initiated against Bora, vide show-cause notice (number AP 188/2022/16), dated March 14, 2023, under the provisions of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964, for his unauthorised absence from office and gross indiscipline and misconduct,” the notification read.

The notification further stated that the concerned ACS officer had, vide letter dated April 25, 2023, submitted his written statement of defence, wherein he had not denied the charges levelled against him and he continued to remain absent from office.

“The Governor of Assam is satisfied that it is necessary and expedient to place Kumur Surajeet Bora under suspension from service with immediate effect; Now therefore, Bora, the deputy secretary to the government of Assam, border protection and development department, is placed under suspension under rule 6(1)(a) of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964 with immediate effect,” the notification read.
