KHADC gives Iewduh dedicated waste truck

SHILLONG, Sep 13: In a bid to ensure proper waste disposal at the largest traditional market of the state, the KHADC released a dedicated garbage truck for collection of waste from Iewduh market on Wednesday.
The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Council, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, handed over the truck to the office of the Syiem of Mylliem.
Executive Member in-charge Health and Sanitation, Victor Ranee, Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Ainam Manik Syiem, among others were present during the programme to release the truck.
Speaking on the occasion, the KHADC CEM said that they decided to hand over the garbage truck to the office of the Syiem of Mylliem since they are the entity concerned with the cleanliness of Iewduh market.
It may be mentioned that the garbage truck was donated through the funds provided from the Chief Minister Special Development Fund (CMSDF).
Moreover, the CEM stated that he will meet the members of the committee which was constituted to look into the safety and security of Iewduh market and its six adjoining localities.
The committee will also look into matters to ensure that proper hygiene and cleanliness are maintained in the market.
Syiem also said that the Council has decided to install CCTV cameras and streetlights inside Iewduh market besides construction of toilets for the shopkeepers and vendors.
It may be mentioned that a committee headed by the KHADC CEM comprises EM in-charge of Market, Grace Mary Kharpuri, and EM in-charge of Solid Waste Management, Victor Ranee, as members, besides Additional District Magistrate Ronnie Wahlang, Sector Police Officer Bipul Das and representative from the Urban Affairs department.
The Rangbah Shnongs of the six localities adjoining Iewduh market — Wahingdoh, Umsohsun, Wahthapbru, Quallapaty, Mawkhar and Mission Compound — are also members of the committee.
