Shillong, September 14: The Tamil Nadu Farmers Association has announced plans to organize a ‘Rail Roko’ agitation on September 19, focusing on the Cauvery water issue.

In a meeting held on Wednesday, the office bearers of the farmers’ association passed a resolution to proceed with the agitation.

As per IANS, this protest is slated to take place across all Delta districts in the state, with the primary goal of exerting pressure on the Central government to engage in dialogue with Karnataka and ensure the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

The organization alleges bias on the part of the Central government toward Karnataka in the Cauvery water dispute, asserting that such a stance is detrimental to the farming community and the interests of Tamil Nadu.

P. R. Pandian, the General Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Farmers Association, accused the Union Government of consistently favoring Karnataka in the Cauvery water issue, to the detriment of Tamil Nadu.

Furthermore, Pandian noted that Basavaraj Bommai, former Chief Minister of Karnataka and BJP leader, had escalated protests in Karnataka against the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

In a statement made on Thursday, Pandian pointed out that Union government representatives had levied allegations against Tamil Nadu regarding Kuruvai paddy cultivation during the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) meeting.

He also expressed concern about a “larger political conspiracy” against Tamil Nadu in this matter and stressed the responsibility of the Union Government to implement the directives of the Cauvery Water Management Authority.
