Shillong, Sep 15: Opposing the move of the Central government to change the name of the country from India to Bharat, the Hynniewtrep A’chik National Movement (HANM) on Friday has decided to write to the three MPs of the state to voice their opposition against it.
While speaking to reporters, HANM president, Lamphrang Kharbani alleged that this an attempt of the BJP to impose one religion in the country which is goes against the spirit of the constitution. ‘It is also an attempt of the Centre to disregard the people who are not familiar with the party ideologies like language, religion, practice and customs,” Kharbani said.
“We cannot accept this since India is a diverse nation formed by nearly 500 kingdoms including the Khasi states,” HANM president added.
