Heroin seized, two arrested

Jowai, Sep 15: The ANTF intercepted two vehicles coming from Mizoram transporting illegal contraband in East Jaintia Hills and arrested two person in this connection on Friday morning.
According to a statement issued here, credible source information was received on Friday morning that suspected illegal contraband substances are being transported through two tourist vehicles coming from Mizoram.
Accordingly, the ANTF team along with staff of Umtyra check point and Khliehriat Police Station conducted Naka at Nongsning under the command of Banraplang Jyrwa, MPS and Additional Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills that led to the seizure of the vehicles at 8:30 am.
During the search of the first vehicle bearing registration number ML-05-M-1597 in the presence of independent witnesses, four soap boxes containing yellowish orange powder with a net weight of 43.33 gms were recovered.
Similarly by conducting search of the second vehicle (MZ-01-K-3872), forty four soap boxes containing yellowish orange powder with a net weight of 516.43 gms was recovered.
Preliminary test was conducted which indicated positive for heroin.
The contraband was then seized, packed and sealed in the presence of independent witnesses.
The police apprehended Lorence Zomuanpuia (32), a resident of Assam Bazar, ARC, Shillong and Lalmalsawa (36), a resident of Hunthar Veng, Aizawl, Mizoram.
A case under appropriate sections of NDPS Act is being registered at Khliehriat Police Station and investigation into the matter is on.
