Shillong, Sep 15: A video that has gone viral on social media shows a huge crowd trying to barge into State Bank of India, Ranikor Branch, South West Khasi Hills on Friday.
According to the video, it was a scene of utter chaos where people were seen bumping and pushing each other to be able to withdraw money from the bank. They even tried to push the gate of the bank as the guard was seen helpless and unable to take stock of the situation.
The viral video that was share on social media caught the attention of the KSU SWKHD unit who rush to the spot.
It was informed that the bank was facing severe shortage of employees, inadequate banking equipment, and persistent disruptions in electricity and internet services, the KSU said.
“It is due to these factors that the services of the bank have been severely affected. The SBI Ranikor branch is serving to the villagers from 150 villages in district,” the KSU said.
The KSU has sought the help of MLA, Pius Marwein to address the issue and to initiate establishment of additional banking institutions in the area.
