JOWAI, Sep 18: A truck and its driver met a tragic fate as the vehicles plummeted down a 50-metre long precipitous slope near Shallam Syngkon Petrol Pump, Wahgate Jowai, after ramming a tea stall and a tyre service shop on Sunday midnight.
Searching for the vehicle, the Jowai Police descended the slope and found the truck (AS-01-FC 8513) in ruins. Witnesses near the site said that a person usually stayed in the tyre shop. However, that night, the person was elsewhere and thus escaped what could be a fateful accident.
After a thorough search, the police found the corpse of one Khrawkupar Phawa, the driver of the truck who hailed from Sohmynting village in West Jaintia Hills, was found stuck in the wreckage.
After some effort, the cadaver was extracted.
