NONGSTOIN, Sep 20: In a hair-raising case, a 19-year-old girl from Eastern West Khasi Hills who was on her way to school, escaped from the clutches of a miscreant who allegedly attempted to rape her.
The student sustained serious injuries while managing to overpower her assailant.
According to the Superintendent of Police of Eastern West Khasi Hills, Maxwell Syiem, the incident occurred on Tuesday morning.
It was also informed that the miscreant struck the girl with a stone on her face and even produced a knife threatening to use it on her. The girl, however, had a narrow escape and was later found by other students as she was crying for help.
The SP said the police have launched a manhunt to nab the miscreant, while adding that they already have a suspect and will soon arrest the culprit.
