Meghalaya Chemistry Olympiad-2023 from November

Guwahati, Sept 23: The Chemistry Department of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya is organizing the Meghalaya Chemistry Olympiad (MCO) for the second consecutive year in November 2023. The programme represents a unique multi-tiered chemistry competition tailored for high school students of the state of Meghalaya.
MCO, a competitive examination-based program, provides an exclusive platform for the
students of Meghalaya, fostering their enthusiasm for science, with a particular emphasis in
the field of chemical sciences. It serves as a valuable catalyst in guiding them towards
pursuing Chemistry as a major stream in their higher education endeavor.
In this regard, Dr. Sarifuddin Gazi from the Department of Chemistry USTM said,
“Following the resounding success of the inaugural MCO event, MCO-22, the Department of
Chemistry at USTM is pleased to announce the upcoming 2 nd MCO, i.e. MCO-23. This
prestigious event is scheduled to take place in the month of November. We are delighted to
inform you that registration is now open for students in classes VIII, IX, and XI and it will
continue till 15 th October 2023. The registration link is:
https://forms.gle/LMH3NaSidKPpRkFS9. “We earnestly encourage all students in the VIII,
IX, and XI grade levels from the state of Meghalaya to actively participate in this
competition”, said Dr Gazai.
Earlier, MCO-22 was conducted on November 3 rd , 2022, and culminated in a memorable
award ceremony on March 18 th , 2023. This distinguished occasion was graced by the
esteemed presence of Sri. Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor USTM; Prof. G. D. Sharma, Vice
Chancellor USTM; and Prof. Donkupar Syiem, a distinguished Professor from the
Department of Biochemistry at North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong.
In recognition of their outstanding academic achievements, a total of 11 top-performing
students from classes VIII, IX, and XI were honored with cash prizes of Rs 60,000
accompanied by certificates of excellence. Additionally, 20 other high-achieving students
who excelled in the competitive examination were presented with consolation prizes.
