New Delhi, Sep 22: The BJP on Friday issued a show cause notice to its Lok Sabha member Ramesh Bidhuri for his use of objectionable words against Bahujan Samaj Party MP Danish Ali in Lok Sabha during a discussion on the Chandrayaan mission’s success.
The BJP leadership, sources said, has taken a dim view of Bidhuri’s abusive outburst, which has drawn outrage, at a time when the ruling party is basking in the success of the passage of women’s reservation bill in a special session of Parliament.
Th BJP sources said the party has sought a reply from the South Delhi MP as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for his use of unparliamentary words. Generally, those served the notice are given 15 days to answer.
Bidhuri had used derogatory words against Ali while speaking in Lok Sabha on Thursday. Speaker Om Birla later expunged those words.
Union minister Rajnath Singh had expressed regret for his remarks.
The video of his controversial references to the Muslim MP has gone viral with opposition parties demanding strict action against him, including suspension from the House.
Speaker Birla has cautioned him and warned of strict action if such an offence is repeated.
Bidhuri is a second-term Lok Sabha member and had been a member of the Delhi assembly three times before he successfully contested parliamentary election for the first time in 2014.
He is a considered a grassroots leader within the party but is seen as a repeat offender in using objectionable words against rivals.
The Congress on Friday strongly condemned BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri’s objectionable remarks in the Lok Sabha against BSP parliamentarian Danish Ali and demanded his immediate suspension from the House.
Describing the remarks as an insult to all MPs, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said the apology offered by Union Minister Rajnath Singh was a “mere eyewash” and not acceptable.
“It is an absolute shame what Bidhuri has said. Rajnath Singh’s apology is simply not acceptable. It is a half-hearted apology, it was an afterthought.
“What Bidhuri has said is an insult to Parliament and makes a mockery of what the prime minister keeps repeating ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaas, Sabka Sabka Vishvaas, Sabka Prayas’ which becomes all ‘bakwaas’ (nonsense),” Ramesh told reporters here when asked about the issue.”What Bidhuri has said is an insult to all of us. Strictest possible action should be taken against this MP. If this is not a case for suspension (then what is). Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha (of AAP) stand suspended for exercising their democratic right of protest inside Parliament and Mr Bidhuri has spoken in a language that is an insult not only to Danish Ali but also to every MP and every Indian,” the Congress leader said.
Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Friday said it was “unfortunate” that the BJP has not yet taken “appropriate” action against its parliamentarian Ramesh Bidhuri for his objectionable remarks in the Lok Sabha against her party’s MP Danish Ali. In a post in Hindi on X, Mayawati said, “Although the speaker has expunged the objectionable remarks made by BJP MP against BSP MP Danish Ali, warned him and a senior minister has apologised in the House, but it is sad/unfortunate that the party has not yet taken appropriate action against him.” (PTI)
