MCA name squad for BCCI Women’s U-19 ODI trophy

SHILLONG, Sep 23: The Meghalaya Cricket Association on Saturday named a 15-member squad for the first BCCI domestic tournament of the 2023-24 season, the Women’s U-19 One Day Trophy. The selected cricketers are among the brightest to have shone at the MCA’s recently-concluded U-19 Girls’ Inter District Cricket Tournament.A preparatory camp for the 8-16 October BCCI tournament in Gujarat will begin on 25 September and will run until 3 October in Shillong. The team, minus the standbys, will then leave for Gujarat on 5 October. Meghalaya squad: Dianchidora N Sangma, Dubleen D Nengnong, Indariakor Kharwanniang, Fennysha Nongrum, Ankita Sharma, Kambesa Agitok, Abiezer Kharsyiem, Janicka R Marak, Monica Singh, Emisakani Warjri, Rikmanchi M Sangma, Jayshree Singh, Awesa G Momin, Jaylynn R Marak, Natasha Rabha.Standbys: Julitha Marak, Sistilin Ryntathiang, Banrikmen Lyngdoh, Marme M Sangma.Support staff: Ranjana Yadav (head coach), Marty Mustafa (assistant coach), Helyna D Sangma (trainer), Lucky Mary Marbaniang (physio), Manager to be decided.
India squad departs for BWF World Junior C’ships
NEW DELHI, Sep 23: India’s 16-member badminton squad on Saturday left for Spokane (Washington, USA) to participate in the upcoming BWF World Junior Championships, from September 25-October 8.The squad members attended a training camp organised by the Badminton Association of India at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati from September 1-20 before embarking on the trip.The tournament will start with team events from September 25-30 whereas the singles’ events will be held from October 2-8.In Group D, India are clubbed with Germany, Brazil, Cook Islands and the Dominican Republic.India will start their campaign against Cook Islands on September 25.The top two teams from each group will qualify for the next stage. India U-17 beat Iran 3-0
BURIRAM (Thailand), Sep 23: Powered by a Sulanjana Raul hat-trick, India’s U-17 team wrapped up its AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers campaign with a resounding 3-0 win over Iran here on Saturday.India’s campaign so far has been defined by two heavy losses to teams ranked higher than the Young Tigresses.Against Iran though, from the first minute to the last, Raul was at the centre of the action and could have had a hat-trick by the end of the first half itself.In the first minute, Raul was released on goal by Lalita Boypai. She rounded the keeper and faced with an empty goal, shot into the side netting. India finally got their breakthrough in the 36th minute, and ironically, it came in the simplest manner possible: Heena Khatun’s cross from the right was turned in from close range by Sulanjana Raul completed her hat trick in the 88th minute and displayed the full range of her skills in doing so. Viksit Bara’s chipped ball found her in midfield, surrounded by three Iran players, 30 yards from the goal.(PTI)
