SHILLONG, Sep 28: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Thursday rejected KHADC chief Pyniaid Sing Syiem’s allegation that it was being supported by the Trinamool Congress.
Syiem’s statement, the party said, lacks substance and weight.
“Some people are capable of making statements that lack substance and weight. Such statements should simply be discarded and responded to,” VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh said.
“I have faith in the knowledge and intelligence of the people to see through such baseless statements,” he said.
Syiem had virtually questioned the credibility and the antecedent of the VPP by seeking to know if the ‘Prah’ (winnower, the VPP symbol) was Khasi or from West Bengal.
On the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and the district council polls, both due next year, the VPP said that the National People’s Party is struggling to find a candidate for the Shillong parliamentary seat.
The VPP has no such problem, Myrboh said.
“People respond to the call of our party wherever we go. We have no doubts about winning,” he added.
“But it does not mean we do not have to work hard. We need to connect with the people on the ground, take up their issues and concerns and earn their love,” he said.
The VPP spokesperson said the party has been preparing for the Autonomous District Council (ADC) polls. “We will examine the applications from the (prospective) candidates for the elections to the KHADC and JHADC,” he said.
He also said the party would try to field candidates in the Garo Hills.
The VPP appears to have stolen a march over the other political parties in gearing up for the polls.
