Bihar natives nabbed for fake gold trading in Assam’s Hailakandi

Shillong, October 2: Three individuals from Bihar, including a woman, were apprehended in Assam’s Hailakandi district on charges of engaging in counterfeit gold trade, as confirmed by the police on Monday.

As per IANS, Ramu Prajapati, Sudama Prajapati, and Yamuna Yadav, all residents of Gaya, arrived in Hailakandi with the alleged intention of selling fake gold to Girjesh Vishwakarma, a fellow Bihar native who works in a government office in Hailakandi town.

A senior police officer explained, “Three counterfeit gold traders contacted him to sell the fake gold. We received information from undisclosed sources and initiated an operation. When the trio arrived in Hailakandi town to transact with Girjesh Vishwakarma on Sunday, we took them into custody.”

The police asserted that they confiscated a minimum of 2 kg of counterfeit gold from the possession of the detained individuals.
