BSF seizes consignment worth
Rs 15 lakh in EKH
Shillong, Oct 3: Alert troops of 4 Batallion under BSF Meghalaya foiled a smuggling attempt and seized cosmetics and clothing items worth around Rs 15 lakhs while being smuggled to Bangladesh through the international border of East Khasi Hills on Monday. The consignment was seized by vigilant troops of BSF Meghalaya when the miscreants were trying to smuggle it into Bangladesh. However, on being challenged by the BSF, miscreants fled away from the spot by taking advantage of inclement weather and darkness. The seized items were handed over to customs office Pynursla for further action.

 

NEHU Tura hosts first ever
start-up expo

TURA, Oct 3: Cabinet Minister Rakkam Sangma inaugurated the first ever three-day Megha Start-up Expo at NEHU, Tura campus on Tuesday. A platform for start-ups, Agri-preneurs, rural entrepreneurs, innovators and industries to showcase their farm produce, processed products, technologies and services, the three-day mega event aims to sensitise stakeholders about the facilitation available from enablers, funding opportunities and market demand. The event will also enable stakeholders in fostering connections with the broader value supply chain and offer networking opportunities with investors, buyers, branding, marketing and packaging partners. The event is organised by BIRAC’S BioNEST Bioincubator (B3I) Facility, NEHU in collaboration with Prime Start-up Hub Meghalaya and BRTC KIIT-TBI, Odisha.

 

 

EGH GSU appoints school principal as CEC
TURA, Oct 3: In the wake of the Tengsak G Momin-led GSU CEC that announced the elections of union’s East Zone on October 19 recently, leaders of various regional units from East Garo Hills held a meeting recently and appointed Rongrenggre Government Higher Secondary School Principal S G Momin as the chief election commissioner. The meeting also appointed Savio M Sangma and Tattara N Marak as caretakers who would resume office, hold meeting as well as take appropriate actions if necessary on behalf of the union. Meanwhile, the Chief Election Commissioner was entrusted with the constitution of other ECs to pave the way for the holding of fresh elections.
