Guwahati, Oct 5: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced a slew of measures for the development of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), while reiterating the commitment of the state government to work for the socio-economic and academic development of BTR.
Among the projects announced by the chief minister include the establishment of a Rs 25-crore integrated DC office at Tamulpur, Rs 5-crore circuit house at Tamulpur and a Rs 50 crore stadium at Tamulpur district.
“Moreover, in the coming days, eligible women of BTR will be included in the beneficiary list of the Orunodoi scheme,” Sarma said after dedicating a newly-constructed RCC bridge on Barama-Dhamdhama-Tamulpur Road in Tamulpur district to the service of the people, at a function held inTamulpur.
It may be noted that foundation of the bridge was laid on February 26, 2021. The 193.480 metre bridge has been constructed with financial outlay of Rs 29.57 crore under the State Owned Priority Development (SOPD) scheme.
The bridge connects Tamulpur with Baksa district directly where there was no alternative route to connect the two districts earlier.
The chief minister further said that with the inauguration of the bridge, connectivity will get a new momentum in BTR. “Now transportation between Tamulpur and Baksa will be very convenient and distance and time taken can be brought down drastically. With the help of this bridge over river Pagladia at least 25,000 people across the river will be directly benefitted,” he said.
On the occasion, the chief minister also announced that the 26-km road from Dhamdhama to Tamulpur would be converted to a double-lane road under the Asom Mala project.
“The state government and BTC have been working unrelentingly to expedite the socio-economic and academic development of BTR,” he said.
Sarma informed that the construction of Rs 600-crore Tamulpur Medical College and Hospital was going on in full swing. “Once dedicated, the medical college and hospital will greatly cater to the health and education of the people belonging to the BTR area,” he added.
The chief minister also laid the foundation stone for a Rs 43-crore modern district sports complex at Mushalpur in Baksa district covering an area of 40 bighas of land.
“An amount of Rs 500 crore will soon be approved for improving the road infrastructure of BTR,” he said.
