SHILLONG, Oct 4: The ruling NPP is poised to effect a major change in its organisational set up, starting right from the top echelons in the state. The party is likely to appoint a new state president to succeed WR Kharlukhi.
The party recently held a meeting, attended by all its sitting MLAs, former candidates and party leaders from the Khasi Hills region and a decision was taken to re-organise the party.
During the meeting, a request was also made to announce the names of the candidates for the Lok Sabha and the District Council polls.
Kharlukhi had already sent a letter before the Assembly polls expressing his desire to step down as the state president which was kept in abeyance.
All efforts to contact the state president were unsuccessful as his mobile phone was not reachable.
