Over 180 players vie for top honours at the Nat’l Tennis Championship
New Delhi, Oct 8: After the enthralling tennis action by the senior stars, the 28th National Tennis Championship 2023 is set to witness more than 180 young talents battling it out for the U-16 and U-14 titles across different categories at the DLTA Complex in New Delhi from October 9 to 14.In the U-16 category, 56 boys and 40 girls will play for the singles titles, while, the doubles matches will see the participation of 32 players in the boys and girls categories, respectively.Telangana’s Dhiraj Reddy V is the top seed in the boys U-16 singles, while No. 1 seed Delhi’s Riya Sachdeva, who recently won the girls U-18 doubles title with Maharashtra’s Asmi Adkar, will look to win the title in the girls U-16 singles category.Meanwhile, a total of 40 girls and 56 boys are also going to participate in the U-14 singles categories. The U-14 doubles category will see 32 players vying for top honours in the boys and girls divisions, respectively. (IANS)
Casper Ruud sinks Eubanks
in Shanghai Masters
Shanghai, Oct 8: Casper Ruud earned consecutive ATP Masters 1000 hard-court wins for the first time this year on Sunday when he defeated American Christopher Eubanks 6-4, 6-2 to reach the fourth round at the Shanghai Masters.The eighth seed Norwegian, who defeated Yoshihito Nishioka in his opening match, was too consistent for Eubanks. He committed just six unforced errors and saved all three break points he faced to advance after 72 minutes, ATP Tour reports.Ruud last won back-to-back matches at a hard-court Masters in Montreal in 2022, when he reached the semi-finals. The Norwegian will aim to continue his run in Shanghai when he next plays Hungarian player Fabian Marozsan.With his 35th win of the season, Ruud has also boosted his ATP Finals qualification chances. Spokane, Oct 8: Ayush Shetty’s stellar run at the BWF World Junior Championships came to an end early on Sunday as he finished his campaign with a bronze medal.In a closely contested match, Ayush faced the tournament fourth seed, Alwi Farhan of Indonesia. The first game saw the Indian and his opponent locked in a tight battle, with the score tied at 16-16.
