NY Strikers sign Kusal Perera, Mohammad Haris
Abu Dhabi, Oct 11: Abu Dhabi T10 franchise New York Strikers have built a formidable squad for the seventh edition of the tournament through the Player Draft, with 11 out of the 17 player slots to fill, they’ve made strategic moves to bolster their team.Before the Player Draft even commenced, the New York Strikers had already made significant additions to their roster. They retained former Windies captain Keiron Pollard as their Icon Player.Joining Pollard are compatriot Sunil Narine (Platinum), former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik (Asian Super Star), and the fiery left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir (Cat A), all of whom promise to be valuable assets to the team. Additionally, the team decided to retain Trinidadian spinner Akeal Hosein and UAE batter Muhammad Waseem, further strengthening their lineup.Heading into the 2023 edition of the Abu Dhabi T10, the New York Strikers have chosen to retain Carl Crowe as their head coach, a seasoned mentor who previously led the Deccan Gladiators to victory in the 2021 edition of the tournament. Hockey: Injured Sushila Chanu rested from India’s ACT squad
NEW DELHI, Oct 11: Experienced midfielder Sushila Chanu has been rested from India’s 20-member squad for the upcoming women’s Asian Champions Trophy (ACT) hockey tournament due to a suspected Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.Sushila, who led India at the Rio Olympics, was part of the Indian women’s team that won a bronze medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games last week.According to a Hockey India source, Sushila will soon consult a doctor to know the extent of the injury.”Sushila has been rested because she has a suspected ACL issue. She needs to be checked by a doctor. Sushila is a vital member of the team and she needs to be fully fit ahead of upcoming important tournaments,” the source told PTI.Baljeet Kaur has replaced Sushila in the squad.The Asian Champions Trophy will be held in Ranchi from October 27 to November 5. Sprinter Manikanta Hoblidhar smashes men’s 100m natl record
NEW DELHI, Oct 11: Manikanta Hoblidhar from Services conquered the National Record (NR) during the Men’s 100m event at the 62nd National Open Athletics Championships in Bengaluru on Wednesday.Hoblidhar, who represents the state of Karnataka, finished first in the heat ahead of the Railways’ Elakkiyadasan who ran a 10.49.Earlier, Amiya Mallick held the previous national record with a time of 10.26 during the National Federation Cup at New Delhi in 2016. Six minor wrestlers, coach fall sick in Brahmputra Mail
PATNA, Oct 11: Six minor wrestlers of Assam and their coach fell unconscious in Brahmaputra Mail due to food poisoning and excessive heat and humidity.They were returning to Assam after participating in a junior wrestling competition in Bhopal from October 1 to 7.The wrestlers (all girls) and their coach have reservations till Patna in one train. After reaching here on Tuesday afternoon, they consumed food near the railway station and boarded the Brahmaputra mail.As the wrestlers have no reservation in this train, they boarded on a general compartment despite heavy rush.
