Balawan College inaugurates
its administrative building
SHILLONG, Oct 12: Balawan College, Umsning, on Thursday, inaugurated the Administrative Building (extension building) where the Principal’s office and the college office will be shifted to, a statement issued here said. The Administrative Building was inaugurated by Lok Sabha member Vincent H Pala, who was the chief guest of the occasion, and blessed by Rev Fr Richard M Majaw, VG, Shillong Archdiocese, in the presence of the guest of honour, Col. Omkar Singh (Retd.), Controller of Examination, NEHU, who inaugurated the Strong Room of the College. The day was brightened by the indigenous songs and dances performed by the students of the college, while 53-year-old Lakyntiew Syiemlieh, who graduated from the college this year, read a self-composed poetry on Balawan College.

 

Group moves CM over issues
faced at Dobu village in EGH
TURA, Oct 12: The AHAM Dobu Regional unit in East Garo Hills recently met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and submitted a memorandum urging him to look into various issues being faced by the people in the area. The organization, among others raised the issue of the non-functioning Veterinary Office at Dobu. The organization, while appreciating the setting up of the said office urged that necessary action be taken to make it functional, so that people of the area can benefit from it. The organization also sought the up-gradation of the Dobu PHC to CHC pointing out that it has been operating in the current capacity for a long time and that it was high time that it was up-graded. Pointing out that the PHC caters to more than 45 villages which has a total population of over 15,000, the organization said that its up-gradation would greatly benefit the local populace. Another demand made by the organization was the up-gradation of the Dobu OGC into a Police station. The organization said that police personnel stationed at the facility have to cover a large area which affects their efficiency and urged that the same be made a police station at the earliest.
