SGH police bust drug peddling racket, 2 nabbed

TURA, Oct 13: South Garo Hills Police on Friday were able to bust a drug-peddling racket leading to the arrest of two persons and recovering over 700 bottles of banned Phensedyl cough syrup from an abandoned house.
Acting on a tip off, that drug peddlers were transporting suspected contraband substances from Dabigre to Meata village by an autorickshaw bearing registration number ML 09A-8687, a search operation was conducted by the ANTF team to intercept the vehicle.
The team intercepted the vehicle with the two accused at Reservegittim, Baghmara at 5 pm.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 496 bottles of banned Phensedyl cough syrup.
A preliminary interrogation of the two accused led to the revelation that the bottles of the cough syrup was loaded by another person from an abandoned house at Blue Hills, Dabigre.
Following the information, police proceeded to the said location and conducted a search that led to the recovery of another 291 bottles of the banned substance.
A total 787 bottles of the banned substance and the autorickshaw were seized.
A case has been registered at Baghmara police station and investigation into the matter is on.
