Shillong, Oct 14: In a spectacular debut at the U-17 boys’ Subroto Cup in New Delhi, Meghalaya left spectators in awe as they secured a resounding 14-0 victory over the underdog team, Dadra and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu in their inaugural Pool D match.
Represented by the Assam Rifles Public School, the Meghalaya squad showcased an extraordinary display of skill and teamwork. Phermanbha Lyngdoh and Jason T Malsawmtluanga emerged as the star players of the match, each netting an astonishing four goals. Lalbiakdika added three more to the tally, while Rodrigo Sympli, Milli Putum, and Iminstar Mawlong each contributed a goal to the remarkable victory.
The U-17 boys’ tournament, which kicked off today, will run until the 23rd of October, promising an exciting fortnight of youth football action. Meghalaya, led by their exceptional performance, has set a high standard for the competition.
Pool D, in which Meghalaya is competing, also includes formidable opponents such as Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Navy School. The path ahead promises more thrilling encounters as teams vie for supremacy in this prestigious tournament.
