Shillong, Oct 17: Meghalaya suffered a resounding nine-wicket loss at the hands of the Mumbai cricket team in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament held in Jaipur on Tuesday.
In a challenging battle against a star-studded Mumbai squad, featuring several Indian national and Indian Premier League (IPL) players, Meghalaya managed to muster only 65 runs for the loss of nine wickets during their allotted 20 overs. Mumbai efficiently chased down the target in just 9.4 overs, losing only one wicket in the process.Meghalaya was compelled to bat first after losing the toss and faced a formidable Mumbai bowling attack, including prominent players like Tushar Deshpande, who had recently represented the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and finished with impressive figures of 3/8.
Meghalaya’s batting lineup struggled against Mumbai’s top-class bowling, collapsing to 27/7.
It was only Anish Charak, batting at No. 8, and Akash K Choudhury at No. 9 who managed to put up some resistance, forging a partnership of 23 runs.
These two were the sole contributors to reach double figures, with Charak remaining not out on 20, while Choudhury added 11 to the total.In their chase, Mumbai opened with the Indian international, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who contributed 21 runs, and the newcomer Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who remained unbeaten with an impressive 32 runs.
When Jaiswal was dismissed by Meghalaya’s guest player, Rajesh Bishnoi (1/20), the seasoned Indian international, Ajinkya Rahane, stepped in, finishing not out with 8 runs.
After suffering two consecutive defeats, Meghalaya now hopes to turn their fortunes around when they face Mizoram on Thursday in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament.
