SHILLONG, Oct 17: In its effort to crackdown against drug traffickers, the ANTF officials of East Jaintia Hills district on Tuesday detained a suspected drug peddler and contraband item was seized from his possession.
It was informed that the ANTF officials were conducting vehicle checking along the NH-06 at Nongsning village in East Jaintia Hills, when a night super bus coming from Aizawl was intercepted. Subsequently, thorough searched of the bus led to the arrest of Joseph Hmangaih Zula (46) on suspicion of carrying illegal contraband.
The detainee as well as his belongings was meticulously frisked as per legal provisions of the NDPS Act, and a plastic bag containing white colour crystal substance, weighing 1.017 KGs, was seized from his possession.
Preliminary test of the substance yielded positive results for Amphetamine (Crystal Meth), a potent drug and its price in illegal market is Rs 1.15 Crore per kilogram.
A criminal case has been registered and the accused Joseph Hmangaih has been arrested. Investigation into the matter is in progress to unearth the backward and forward linkages.
Meanwhile, the chief minister appreciated the ongoing crackdown against drug traffickers. While the Director General of Police, Dr. L R Bishnoi, IPS has congratulated the Superintendent of Police and his team for the successful operation.
