AMPATI, Oct 18: A new health facility centre that will cater to around 4000 plus individuals residing in 11 villages along the Indo-Bangla border areas in South West Garo Hills– Urban Health and Wellness Centre was inaugurated at Balughat on Wednesday.
The health facility will function as an OPD and day care centre providing sugar tests, blood pressure tests, cancer screening, tele-consultations etc besides acting as an awareness hub.
Unlike other health centers a dedicated medical and health officer will be stationed at the urban health and wellness centre to provide medical assistance and support to the people of the region.
The urban health and wellness centre at Balughat in South West Garo Hills was inaugurated by Mahendraganj MLA Sanjay A Sangma in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner Y W Momin, District Medical & Health Officer H Barman, Mahendraganj MDC A Ali, Balughat Nokma besides a host of officials from the Medical fraternity.
This will be the 4th urban health & wellness centre out of the five to be inaugurated in the district.
The people of the region and especially pregnant mothers will now be able to avail crucial antenatal care everyday which was practically a strenuous task being undertaken by the medical fraternity because of the remoteness of the area.
The MLA urged the community to fully utilise the services of the health centre. Acknowledging the hardships faced by the villagers because of the deplorable road conditions, he promised to expedite the ongoing road construction in the region. Sangma also promised to look into the requirement of an ambulance for the people of the area.
