Shillong, Oct 19: The 34th East Zone Junior Athletics Championship held in Kolkata witnessed an inspiring performance from the young athletes of Meghalaya, who brought home a collection of medals. With dedicated training and personal best achievements, these athletes showcased their talent and determination on the national stage.
In the Under-14 Girls’ 600M race, Rukini RT Dkhar secured the silver medal with an impressive time of 1 minute and 42.80 seconds, setting a new personal best for herself.
This remarkable achievement highlights her prowess in long-distance running and underscores her commitment to continuous improvement.
Sibilda Maring, competing in the Under-16 Girls’ High Jump event, leaped to a height of 1.45 meters, earning herself a silver medal. Her excellent performance not only secured her place on the podium but also marked a new personal best, reflecting her relentless dedication to her craft.
Pringchang N Sangma demonstrated his skills in the Under-20 Men’s High Jump, clinching the bronze medal with a height clearance of 1.80 meters. His achievement in a highly competitive field is a testament to his talent and hard work.
Anrisha Klein, participating in the Under-18 Girls’ High Jump, earned a bronze medal by clearing a height of 1.50 meters, setting a new personal best for herself. Her achievement signifies her ability to rise to the occasion when it matters most.
The Meghalaya Athletics Association expressed its heartfelt congratulations to the medal winners and acknowledged the pivotal role of their coach, Pleasantly Synnah, and Maradona physio in shaping their success.
Additionally, the association extended its gratitude to Director Isawanda Laloo IAS and the government for their invaluable support and financial assistance in facilitating the journey of these budding athletes to the championship.
Finely Pariat, Secretary of the Meghalaya Athletics Association, emphasized the importance of such championships in nurturing young talent and encouraging their growth in the world of athletics.
