New Delhi, Oct 22: In a momentous debut at UFC 294 Prelims, Anshul Jubli’s initial success came to an abrupt halt when Mike Breeden executed a powerful third-round knockout, marking the Indian MMA prospect’s first career loss. This pivotal showdown presented a formidable challenge for Jubli, further compounded by Breeden’s failure to make weight by 3.5lbs. As a result, the fight was contested as a 159.5lb catchweight.
The clash unfolded as an exhilarating striking battle, with both fighters landing significant blows in the first round. Their mutual respect was evident as they acknowledged each other’s combinations. However, ‘King of Lions’ swiftly amped up the intensity in the second round, adopting a more aggressive approach. In a notable moment, Jubli landed a strike that caused a cut above Breeden’s left eye, an injury promptly addressed before the fight continued. The 28-year-old Indian fighter found increased success with his combinations during this round, but ‘Money’ remained resilient, narrowly missing a flying knee towards the round’s conclusion.
In the third round, Mike Breeden displayed a heightened sense of urgency, immediately surging forward and delivering powerful strikes while vocally taunting his opponent. His tactics paid off when he dropped Anshul Jubli with a decisive right hook, securing a third-round TKO victory.
Anshul Jubli, often hailed as one of the most promising prospects in Indian MMA history, has enjoyed surging popularity since his introduction on the “Road to the UFC.” As noted by Daniel Cormier during Jubli’s walkout, it will be intriguing to observe how the Indian fighter rebounds from this early career setback and what lies ahead for his burgeoning MMA journey.
