Dark Delights
In a move that can only be described as taking Albus Dumbledore’s advice to the next level, the future “smart city” seems to be embracing the idea that ‘happiness can indeed be found in the darkest of times.’
But how does one find happiness if the art of navigation involves a delicate dance on dark footpaths, hoping you won’t fall flat on your face, end up with a mysterious tail, or stumble upon a snake casually chilling in your path.
But maybe there’s a solution.
For everyone who wishes to venture out with their essential commodities, a must-have accessory appears to be a trusty torch. If you plan to saunter home after a sundowner, this could be your ticket to safety and sanity
Maybe another G20 summit, with delegates attempting to tour this uncharted territory, might inject some much-needed enthusiasm.
In a city yearning for a savior, it appears that the only true knight could be none other than Harry Potter himself. It’s time for him to swish and flick his wand, utter those magical words, “Lumos,” and we have a ‘lit’ city.

Local taxi, a common sight
Public transport in Shillong, especially taxis, seems to be stuck in the satisfaction of yesteryears.
In this era of metros, rapid train services, online taxi booking services, the unmistakable black and yellow taxis brazenly stopping anywhere on the road to pool in passengers remains a common sight.
The public transport system in the city till date largely relies on local taxis, which have remained stagnant in terms of regulation and sophistication when it comes to being operated. The only change seems to be the old ambassador cars being replaced by Maruti Alto, which is a car model which is widely used as local taxis in Shillong.
The SPTS buses too, launched around a decade ago, are either condemned or in a pathetic state.
Rapido, however, has come as a lifesaver for many commuters going about the city. At present, bike taxi services are a go-to for most people, especially youngsters who prefer reaching quicker and can compromise with comfort.
Until the public transportation system such as taxis and buses are regulated, Shillong remains the champion of the charming chaos.
