State’s 1st CM remembered on 33rd Death Anniversary

Tura, Oct 25: The 33rd Death Anniversary of Meghalaya’s first Chief Minister, Late Captain Williamson A Sangma was on Wednesday observed at Capt Willimason Memorial park in Baghmara, South Garo Hills, witnessing Education Minister and Rongara-Siju MLA Rakkam A Sangma paying rich tribute to the late leader.

The local MLA paid his respect to the founding father of the Meghalaya state in the presence of the South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, the Superintendent of Police and other top officials of Baghmara.  The same Memorial Service was also observed at Siju Mondal gitok Playground, Siju Block.

Speaking on the occasion, Sangma recalled the enormous contribution of Lt Capt Sangma in creation of Meghalaya  into a separate state and said that he was a man of committed love and vision who never had a quest for fame or money. He also suggested to the gathering that in order to ensure information on Lt Capt Sangma about his various contribution towards the betterment of the State,a book should be written in his honour. He further informed that an artificial turf with gallery has been sanctioned to Siju Mondal Gitok Playground under Khelo India Scheme to benefit the people of the area.

Marking the occasion, the finals of the open to all local Football Tournament was played on the day at Siju Mondal Gittok Playground.

The function at Siju also witnessed the presentation of appreciation and cash awards to those students belonging under Siju area  who have secured 1st Division with letter marks in SSLC examination 2023.
