Guwahati, Oct 27: A dedicated chief minister’s office (CMO), named Lok Sewa Bhawan, was inaugurated on the premises of the Janata Bhawan here by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday.

The Lok Sewa Bhawan will accommodate the offices of the Assam chief minister and the chief secretary.

The new block marked as ‘I’ will be completely dedicated to take public service and welfare to a greater height. The five-storied building has been constructed encompassing all facilities for the employees to render their services.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that prior to the construction of the Lok Sewa Bhawan, the CMO was accommodated in the building of the home department which caused inconvenience with regard to space.

“However, with the inauguration of the new building, the entire establishment of the Chief Minister’s Office as well as Chief Secretary’s Office will have ample space to work more smoothly and efficiently. Moreover, the energy efficient building is designed and constructed with an eye to create an ambience ideal for all employees,” Sarma said.

“With the inauguration of the building, public services can be expedited for the benefits of the people of all sections,” he said.

Earlier, prior to the inauguration of the new office, the chief minister planted a rudraksh sapling on its premises and performed a special puja.

Cabinet ministers, senior government officers and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
