SHILLONG, Oct 30: Former Mawlai MLA PT Sawkmie has demanded the NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof P S Shukla to retract the decisions taken by him so that it can ensure smooth functioning of the university.
It may be mentioned that the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising NEHUTA, NEHUSU and NEHUNSA has decided to intensify its agitation against the VC by resorting to a non-cooperation movement starting with the Academic Council meeting scheduled for on October 31.
The JAC took this decision in view of the VC’s failure to comply with the deadline to remove the “illegally appointed” contractual technical officer/senior consultant, Rohit Prasad, by midnight of October 26.
Blaming the higher authorities in the University for creating the controversy, Sawkmie said that the NEHU authority should have avoided illegal appointments and contractual appointments to any post.
Expressing concern over the situation and the functioning of NEHU, Sawkmie claimed that the VC is not bothered about local youths of the state, while making such illegal appointments.
