Two get 14-year RI for rape, sexual assault

SHILLONG, Nov 1: A special POCSO court in East Khasi Hills convicted two persons for raping and sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment for a period of 14 years and fine of Rs 50,000 each.
In this connection, an FIR was received at Mawngap Police Station on December 3, 2018, that a girl was raped by one Mortonjune Kharbani, around 45-50 years.
The victim was raped multiple times in the year 2017 in her house while she was alone at home.
A case was registered under different sections of POCSO Act and investigated by WPSI Larisha Kharjana.
During the course of investigation, it was revealed that the victim had also been sexually assaulted by one Lumding Syiemlieh.
On completion of the investigation, the case was charge-sheeted against both the accused.
After the trial, the court of the Special Judge (POCSO), East Khasi Hills, Swapna G Momin, MHJS, found both the accused guilty for the offences and passed the judgment on October 27.
