Inter-College Women’s Football Tournament

Shillong, Nov 4: The Sports Department of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) showcased a thrilling display of women’s football talent as they organized the Inter-College Women’s Football Tournament from October 30 to November 4, 2023.
The tournament took place at the SAI-STC, NEHU Permanent Campus in Shillong and featured the participation of nine college teams.
The grand finale of the tournament unfolded on Saturday, pitting Lady Keane College, Shillong, against Sngap Syiem College, Mawkyrwat.
In a nail-biting contest, Lady Keane College emerged as the champions, defeating Sngap Syiem College with a score of 3-1 in the tiebreaker.
The regulation time saw both teams locked in a goalless draw, adding to the intensity of the showdown.
The tournament’s culmination was marked by a splendid presentation ceremony, graced by the presence of Prof. K. Debberma, the Dean of the School of Social Science at NEHU, who presided over the event as the Chief Guest. Prof. Debberma presented the prizes to the triumphant teams, adding prestige to their victories. N. Das, Assistant Director of Physical Education & Sports at NEHU, and the Organizing Secretary of the event, was also in attendance, ensuring the seamless execution of the tournament and the success of its concluding ceremony.
The tournament not only showcased exceptional football talent but also demonstrated the university’s commitment to promoting sports among women in the region.
The Inter-College Women’s Football Tournament, organized by NEHU’s Sports Department, served as a platform for young female athletes to display their skills and compete at a high level. It drew considerable attention from the sports enthusiasts and fans, both within and outside the university community.
The tournament’s participating teams exhibited determination and sportsmanship throughout the week, creating an electric atmosphere at the SAI-STC, NEHU Permanent Campus. Each match was a testament to the participants’ dedication and passion for the beautiful game.
