SHILLONG, Nov 5: KC Secondary School, Shillong, had a remarkable achievement as their choir team, KC Lights, secured two gold medals at the Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod (MCE) in the Children and Folklore categories.
Competing against 56 choirs from around the world, KC Lights clinched the top spot in the Children’s category with a score of 86.83.
In the 21st edition of the MCE, KC Lights became the first Indian choir to participate in the competition.
They faced stiff competition from nine choirs, all hailing from Asian countries, and emerged victorious, claiming another gold medal in the Folklore category.
The Children’s category competition took place last Friday, while the folklore competition unfolded the following day.
The prizes were announced on Sunday. Following the announcement, Brian Wallang, Headmaster of KC Secondary School, expressed his pride and congratulated the talented students. The 25 students who participated in this event hailed from various parts of Meghalaya.
They had a memorable experience at the Friendship concert on Saturday, which was a non-competitive platform for the students to showcase their talents, interact with other teams, and enjoy the camaraderie of the event, without the pressure of winning, Wallang explained to The Shillong Times.
Moreover, the students had a valuable opportunity to connect with the judges before the prize announcement in a session known as ‘Meet the Jury.’ This interaction allowed them to receive constructive feedback from the esteemed panel of judges from around the world, enhancing their overall experience, Wallang added.
