SHILLONG, Nov 5: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) will stage sit-ins in each of the region’s state capitals on November 9 to voice their disapproval of the current state of affairs in conflict-torn Manipur. The decision was made last week in Guwahati at a NESO meeting.
“It has been nearly six months, but there is still no semblance of normalcy in Manipur. This can be attributed to the Government of India’s abject failure to address the situation in an efficient manner, putting people’s lives and property at stake, especially the students’ careers,” NESO chairman Samuel Jyrwa said in a statement on Sunday.
According to Jyrwa, “The purpose of the protest is to voice our deep dissatisfaction with the central government’s inability to put an end to the violence that has been raging in Manipur for the past six months.”
