The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is organising the campaign to celebrate Jal Diwali from Tuesday to Thursday.
As part of the initiative, women self-help groups (SHG) members of DAY-NULM were taken to water treatment plants for exposure to various processes involved in supplying clean and safe drinking water to households. The main objective of the visit is to foster a sense of belonging and ownership among women towards the water infrastructure.
The celebration in Jowai started with a welcome speech from the city coordinator of DAY-NULM, Jowai, Emica S Rymbai, who welcomed all officials of AMRUT, DAY-NULM, PHE, and the SHGs.
During the public meeting, the AMRUT officials, and state and city coordinators explained the objective of the campaign and the necessity of such a visit. They encouraged the participants to actively participate in the programme in order to broaden their knowledge on the water supply system of their own town.
The SDO, PHE, in-charge of the treatment plant, Roskil Challam, provided the officials and the participants a tour of the facility explaining the water treatment process being carried out at the treatment plant.
After the tour was completed, a small meeting was convened to record the testimonials and feedback from the participants.
The officials explained the various processes involved in water treatment. While interacting with the SHG members, the officials emphasised on the importance of water and the need to conserve it.
Similar exposure visits have been planned for November 8 and 9 in Mawphlang and Nongstoin Urban Local Bodies respectively.
