Shillong, November 9: Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool Congress’ national general secretary and Lok Sabha MP, arrived at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Salt Lake, Kolkata, to face questioning in the Bengal school job case.

As per IANS, scheduled to arrive at 11 am, Banerjee reached the central agency office five minutes ahead of time, walking down from his vehicle after entering the central government office (CGO) complex at Salt Lake.

The area within a 100-meter radius has been cordoned off by Bidhannagar City Police. Banerjee is expected to undergo formalities, including filling up forms, before the commencement of questioning and statement recording. Sources suggest that he may be required to deposit his mobile phone with an ED official or leave it with an associate before the interrogation begins.

Having previously submitted documents related to his property and assets to the central agency office as per Calcutta High Court’s directive, Banerjee is likely to face questioning on these documents during Thursday’s session. This marks the fifth time since May that he has been summoned by both the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the parallel probe in the case.

In his last appearance on September 13, Banerjee faced prolonged questioning by the ED. He had also been questioned by the CBI on May 20, where he characterized the outcome as a “big zero.”
