Shillong, November 10: During the Epic Games vs. Google trial, it was disclosed that Google proposed a special arrangement to Netflix, offering a discounted rate of 10% on its in-app payments on Android, allowing Netflix to retain 90% of the earnings, reported The Verge.

As per IANS, documents and testimonies presented in court unveiled Google’s offer to designate Netflix as a “platform development partner” under a unique program. Netflix was the sole recipient of this offer at the time.

The proposed deal aimed to lower the revenue share to 10% on the condition that Netflix fully commit to Google Play Billing globally. Netflix’s VP of business development, Paul Perryman, confirmed under oath that this offer was extended in September 2017. However, Netflix declined the deal and no longer pays Google for distribution via Google Play.

This development emerged as part of the ongoing legal battle between Fortnite publisher Epic Games and Google over in-app purchase fees. Google has defended its 30% share on app transactions via its Play Store.
