SHILLONG, Nov 9: The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) organised the national SC-ST conclave for entrepreneurs in Meghalaya at the State Convention Centre, on Thursday in a bid to make the state’s populace aware of the schemes the central government is giving out for aspiring and existing entrepreneurs.
The event witnessed the participation of around 600 aspiring and existing entrepreneurs from across the state.
Chairman, Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), James PK Sangma, in his keynote address, stated that events and conclaves as such help the state’s entrepreneurs figure out a lot of things, they are otherwise clueless about.
He said, “We have such budding young entrepreneurs in the state of Meghalaya, but often they are clueless about the next step. Be it finance or different schemes that are available out there or how to make their businesses more robust or sustainable, that kind of knowledge is what these kind of conclaves seek to address, so I would encourage all entrepreneurs to come and participate.”
Speaking about contributing towards making India a USD 5 trillion economy, he described Meghalaya government’s vision to contribute USD 30 billion in achieving this goal.
Secretary, Ministry of MSME, SCL Das, emphasising on the role of MSMEs in providing employment opportunities, stated that they also help in industrialisation of rural and backward areas.
He highlighted the benefits of entrepreneurship and urged the participating youth from Meghalaya to take up entrepreneurship as a profession and be a producer and not only a consumer. He also highlighted the potential of various schemes of the Government of India to empower the MSME Sector and said that through this conclave, the SC/ST entrepreneurs of the state will explore innovative ideas, business opportunities and avail maximum benefits of these schemes.
