Shillong, Nov 17: Organisers of the Multimedia Red Ribbon Superstar Meghalaya Icon 2023, have informed here on Friday that the audition for the event will be held at the Community Hall, Wahingdoh on November 30.
In an endeavour to harness the power of music as a catalyst for change, the National AIDS Control Organisation and Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, Shillong will be holding the 12th edition of the Multimedia Red Ribbon Superstar Meghalaya Icon 2023.
The innovative rock band music contest, aimed at fostering awareness on HIV and AIDS, will showcase talents of dynamic participants hailing from every corner of Meghalaya.
It was informed that the contest is exclusively for bands based in Meghalaya, with participants required to be above 18 years of age.
The top seven bands selected during the audition will proceed to the grand finale at Polo Ground on December 1, the organisers said.
The 2023 edition focuses on the theme “Harmony in awareness. Uniting voices against HIV and AIDS,” encouraging bands to compose original songs that contribute to the campaign’s overarching message.
The event promises an electrifying experience with a stellar line-up featuring live performances by Lily Sawian, DJ Dbryn, and Bellas, a dynamic dance group.
The headline act will be none other than the current Meghalaya Icon winner, the sensational band Necroscope.
‘The free-entry event, organised by Inspire Relations and Communications, is a pivotal element
of a comprehensive multimedia campaign designed to engage and educate the youth of ages 15 to 29’, Inspire Relations and Communications (IR&C) founder, W Alexander Kharkongor told reporters.
According to him, the event promises to be a celebration of talent, creativity, and a united front against the challenges posed by HIV and AIDS.
He informed that the campaign theme is “Harmony in awareness. Uniting voices against HIV and AIDS,” which emphasizes the role of music in creating a resonant message that transcends borders and unites communities.
“As an integral part of the multimedia campaign, we are conducting various activities in colleges across Meghalaya, actively engaging with the youth. A signature campaign has been initiated to encourage young individuals to pledge against drugs and promote safe sexual practices,” IR&C founder who is coordinating the event said.
He further informed that each participating band must compose an original HIV and AIDS theme song, contributing to the overarching goal of spreading awareness through the universal language of music.
“Additionally, a mandatory visit to the Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre, available at government hospitals, is part of the eligibility criteria, underlining the holistic approach of the initiative,” IR&C founder said.
