Japan Caravan kicks off in city

SHILLONG, Nov 17: Bringing a slice of the Japanese culture to town, the three-day North East Japan Caravan 2023: Shillong was inaugurated at U Soso Tham Auditorium, here on Friday.
The ‘Japan Caravan 2023’ jointly organised by the Japan Foundation New Delhi and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (North East) will run till November 19.
The first day witnessed judo, karate demonstrations and workshop by Meghalaya Judo Association and All Meghalaya Karate Association was also presented.
Award winning Anime film – Ride your wave was screened on the opening day. State Cabinet ministers Ampareen Lyngdoh donning a ‘Kimono’ – a traditional Japanese attire and A L Hek were among the attendees of the event.
Cosplay lecture, performance, workshop, anime trivia games, trying yukata, calligraphy and origami, anime film screening are some of the highlights of the list of events that have been scheduled for the upcoming days.
The third and the final day of the caravan will also witness a special anime drawing contest.
Ambassador of Japan to India Hiroshi Suzuki urged everyone to come, witness and experience the culture of Japan. Suzuki who is also keen to visit the cherry blossom festival said, “It’s my first time in Shillong but I see the similarity of cherry blossom trees, our Japanese people love cherry blossom, so I look forward to the ongoing festival”.
