Garo Hills boxer looks to impress in natl boxing c’ship

Shillong, Nov 19: In an eagerly anticipated event, Balnas A Sangma, a resident of Tura Balongre in West Garo Hills, is gearing up to showcase his boxing prowess in the upcoming 7th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship.
The championship is scheduled to take place from November 25 to December 2, 2023 at NEHU, Shillong.
Sangma is slated to compete in the Men’s Senior 71 kg category, representing not only his personal skill but also the pride of West Garo Hills.
Johnwell G Momin, Vice President of Meghalaya Boxing Association and President of West Garo Hills Boxing Association, expressed his excitement about Sangma’s participation.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Momin remarked, “It is indeed a moment of pride for the West Garo Hills Boxing Association to have one of its members, Balnas A Sangma, participating in the 7th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship. Garo Hills has been witnessing a surge in talents across various sports, and we are thrilled to see representation in boxing.”
In his role as the President of WGBA, Momin extended his best wishes to Sangma on behalf of all the association members. He said, “On behalf of all the members, I would like to convey our heartfelt best wishes to our team member, Balnas A Sangma.
May he perform exceptionally well and bring laurels to our state. A punch hard for Achik Asong Tangbangchina!”
As Balnas A Sangma prepares to step into the boxing ring, the West Garo Hills Boxing Association stands united in anticipation and pride. The representation of local talent in national championships is a testament to the growing prominence of Garo Hills in the sporting arena. The West Garo Hills community eagerly awaits the outcome, hopeful that Sangma’s efforts will not only contribute to personal glory but also elevate the region’s standing in the realm of national sports.
