The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, was the chief guest of the occasion, and the Director of the North East Police Academy (NEPA) played a pivotal role in administering the oath to all officers who successfully completed their training.
Families of the trainees, accompanied by police officers from NEPA, Meghalaya, and Assam, attended the passing out ceremony. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took the salute during the parade as the newly trained officers conducted the march pass and drill in the parade ground.
In his address, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended congratulations to the officers and commended the entire team of NEPA for maintaining the institute’s prestige. He emphasised the officers’ pivotal role in nation-building, recognising their commitment to contributing to the country.
Sarma highlighted the glorious legacy of the North Eastern Police Academy, established in 1978 on the recommendation of the National Committee on Police Training. The academy is mandated to provide basic training to directly recruited Deputy Superintendents of Police and Sub-Inspectors from the Northeastern states.
Notably, NEPA has trained over 5,000 individuals in the basic course. In addition to the basic course, NEPA has conducted various in-service courses on specialised subjects for police personnel across the country, with approximately 28,000 personnel participating to date.
He also informed that the training covered a comprehensive curriculum, including law, social science, police science, cyber-crimes, weapons, physical training, and police operations. The participants of the 52nd basic course will also be awarded a postgraduate diploma in police administration and investigation by the Sardar Patel University of Police, Security, and Criminal Justice, Jodhpur, further reflecting the dedication of both the trainees and NEPA to excellence in law enforcement.
